Between Our Trials and Our Character

Faith is the foundation upon which we build a godly life. So, it’s no surprise that we face circumstances that challenge our faith on a near daily basis. Faith can be challenged in our work; our relationships with others, and maybe even in our own walk with Christ.

Romans 5:3 tells us we should  “rejoice in our sufferings”, and James 1:2 tells us to “count it all joy” when we meet with trials of various kinds. These are two very important reminders, because it is when we are in the midst of our trials, that our faith is most vulnerable. But it is also here, that our faith in Christ Jesus becomes stronger.

It is from our trials and sufferings that we learn patience, gentleness, and self-control. And through our trials and sufferings we can demonstrate love, kindness, faithfulness and peace. And it is by applying these fruits in our lives that our Christian character can be seen.

So no matter the challenge we face. No matter how great the obstacle or the the difficulty of our circumstances – between our trials and our character, lies perseverance. And it is only by persevering that we can produce the fruits of the Spirit, and grow in our faith.

Question: In what areas of your life have you been facing trials and sufferings? How are you growing in your faith through them?
